On the Bloody Road to Berlin

About the Book

A collection of first hand accounts, taken from interviews with veterans both Axis and Allies, graphically showing the grim reality of war from the Villers bocage to the steppes of Soviet Russia. All the interviews were made with soldiers who fought in the dying days of the war from June 1944, when casualties were at their highest. Among the interviewees are British infantry, tank troops and paratroopers, US GIs and Red Army men, German foot-soldiers and Waffen SS veterans. Between them they describe the Normandy, Arnhem, Ardennes and Alsatian campaigns as well as the bitter battles on the Vistula and Oder rivers and the final fall of Vienna and Berlin. This book really reveals what it was like to be at the sharp end of warfare.
