Barbarossa to Berlin - Volume 2
The Defeat of Germany 19th November 1942 to 15th May 1945
A comprehensive 330 Page Hardcover Book

About the Book
Between June 1941 and May 1945 the largest conflict the world has ever seen was fought across Eastern europe, culminating in the absolute defeat not only of a new ideology, but of an entire nation.
The second book in this series, The Defeat of Germany, takes a chronological look at the Soviet counter-attack around Stalingrad, Mansteins enigmatic counter-stroke in the spring of 1943 through the Battle of Kursk, and subsequent German retreat to the Dneipr. Late 1943 and early 1944 were dominated by the Stavka's repeated efforts to kill off the German right wing, clearing the Ukraine in the process, and set the scene for the devastating German defeats in later 1944.
By the summer of 1944, the Red Army had achieved a level of offensive experience incomparable to its performances of 1941 and 1942. The expert co-ordination of its tank, all-arms and air armies annihilated whole units of the German Army, ending in the overwhelming defeats in Belorussia and the Balkans. The success of these operations brought the Soviet forces into eastern Europe, opening the war of liberation, which saw Soviet arms conquer the East European states from the Baltic to the Black Sea.
German defeat from here on was inevitable, and Soviet offensives of late 1944 and 1945 destroyed not only the Ostheer, but the traditions of German militarism. Soviet victory in the East changed the political face of Europe and determined the next half-century of European history.
Writing in clear chronological style, Brian Taylor covers the main areas of activity on the extensive combat front. He includes details of the armies involved, their strengths, orders of battle and casualties which serve to give a complete picture of the scale of the conflict. Studying each of the combatants and their allies's in equal detail, the Barbarossa to Berlin series gives the reader a unique insight into the sheer scale of this titanic struggle.
